Local search sites are more engaging than IYP sites

Here is a table that summarises some research I did in January 08, comparing average page views per user (from Alexa) for a bunch of local search/review and IYP websites.

See how the traditional IYP sites are well down the list (also Yelp, which seems quite surprising to me) – people just spend less time there. Of course those near the bottom of my list may reason that this means people can more quickly find what they want with a simple service, but personally I think that’s rubbish – there’s just nothing to keep your interest there.
